Privacy & Data Policy

The rights to personal privacy and data privacy are, in my view, absolute. If you visit this site or contact me with a message or comment, I will not collect or store your name or contact information. If your email warrants or inspires a reply, it will be saved just long enough to complete the correspondence. The implementation of privacy measures that reflect my view, is limited by the settings and guardrails established and allowed by the website provider, Wix.

As of 12/15/2021, I am working with the tools that Wix provides in order to maximize privacy settings, and to collect as little data as Wix allows. I'm also working to make sure this site will be in compliance with data privacy rules from the State of California, and the European Union. This is in process, and I will update this Privacy Policy as soon as possible, to verify compliance.

Social Media Tags

If you "share" an artists video or sound performance, by selecting an associated social media link, your action is subject to the privacy provisions of that social media company.

Artists who have submitted video and sound performances are asked if they would like social media tags in order that their songs may be shared on those platforms. Tags associated with those performances are placed with the full consent of those artists.

Musical Video & Sound File Submissions

When you submit a video file, sound file, photograph, or link to any personal presentation of such files, it is assumed that you want to share the image(s), sound(s), and your personal or performance name, with the public. If you use a professional or performance name, that is honored.

Mailing List

If you would like to be on a mailing list for this site, write me through the "Sophia Green & Contact" page, and I will store your email and name for future contact. You are welcome to use a pseudonym for this purpose. Your information will not be shared or sold to any third parties, including, but not limited to email contact or marketing companies. Honestly, I can't think of what I would do with your contact information, except for letting you know about some amazing circumstance concerning Carols for the Earth. Just dreaming, but if they were in the news or went viral, I might let you know!

As neutral as data may be, it is consistently aggregated from a multitude of sources, and the pattern of information surrounding any individual eventually forms a true picture of that person's interests, activities and values.

If you are an upstanding and moral person, you may not be concerned because you feel you have nothing to hide. Please reconsider. It is not only "bad" people who don't want to be tracked. Sometimes, in the wrong social or political climate, doing the "right" thing, or even just having certain opinions, can get you into trouble.

Your privacy is not only valued here, it is treasured. I recommend that you use certain internet tools, and certain online habits, to safeguard your personal boundaries and integrity.

Tools: Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) keep online sites from identifying your computer, which labels the hub of your activities as well as your home address would. Search engines that don't record and sell your searches, such as Duck Duck Go and Startpage, are highly recommended. Email providers that operate on a privacy model are the only ones that will safeguard your thoughts, opinions, and values. If you don't pay money for your email service, then you are paying with your very personal information.

Online habits: I'm all for using a pseudonym when contacting businesses or organizations. Such sites often collect data by default. Often, even well-meaning non-profits and friendly small businesses unwittingly use contact management and other business tools from large data aggregators such as Google or Square, whose entire business models depend upon monetizing your personal contact information and other data. If you have a dear friend or family member who is constantly "sharing" your email address, consider using an email provider that can generate proxy emails, and provide each of your privacy violating loved-ones a separate email address.

If you have read this far, it will be clear to you that the name Sophia Green is a professional pen-name. I use the pronouns "she" and "her". There is a long tradition of using pen-names in publishing, and I am pleased to employ a tradtional solution to a contemporary problem. In real life, we promote different images to different people and groups for different purposes. There is no reason that a pseudonym cannot embody an identity that is just as real for a given purpose, as a given birth-name for general purposes. When it comes to the online world, being multi-faceted in presentation is protective. May your virtual lives always protect your integrated, true, embodied self.
